cause Grub 2 is still relatively new ( still in development process )......and the truth is Grub isnt just gonna disappear... ( And its not prehistoric...)
Yes its true that less ppl may use Grub ..
However , Grub 2 still have certain issues yet to iron out.
Furthermore , Arch linux ,Chakra and Kahel are mostly molded around the KISS philosophy..
Its like...whats the point of getting a nice grahpical boot up screen when you are gonna spend less than 5 seconds on it.. ..Unless of course you are intending to use the many features that GRUB 2 will provide....And of course , Archlinux , Chakra , Kahel and all other distros want to assure as much stability as possible for the users...heres a simple list of features...if you do not need any of them ( or just want the nice graphical effects ..) dont bother changing yet ...
check this link for the features..
(http://www.workswithu.com/2009/07/29/ubuntu-910-preview-grub-2/)All i said above..are IMHO
PS..( i too am tempted to move to Grub 2....)

oh ya btw , if you want to use Grub 2 , its in the repos ...
so all you need to do to install grub2 , is ..sudo pacman -S grub2
of course , there are alot more configurations to do after that...like installing to grub2 to ur root / boot parition ....and editing the new /boot/grub/grub.cfg ..
