What to do next after my upgrade?

hey guys,

For a while i've trying to upgrade my KahelOS using pacman -Syu --noconforim command, however at the end of the process i get the note that "..no packages were upgraded"

To do away with dependencies, What i did was to command pacman -Sydu --noconfirm. It did the upgrade... but when i did the reboot my laptop, i got a blank screen and hung up. I know it's about the video..

Help would be appreciated.

I guess that your intel driver has been removed during the upgrade.
So you may want to reinstall it using these commands.

Try these steps.
1.(since your system already hung up),you may need to boot your system on runlevel 1. (check online docs/google it re:grub runlevel 1/single user)
2.Once you are already on your console,just start your network. (I assumed that you are connected on your LAN on DHCP)
Just type this one and it will give you your IP address that will be your ticket to internet.

/etc/rc.d/networkmanager start

3.Install your video driver (since your lspci output give us an idea that you are using intel) just try this command.
pacman -S xf86-video-intel

note: if your laptop has been configured before with KMS,you may want to regenerate your initramfs using this command.
mkinitcpio -p kernel26

4.Then reboot.

No dependency checking during a full system upgrade is dangerous. It should only be used per single package operations. Additionally you can also find more information on what's causing the hangout by viewing /var/log/Xorg.0.log when you've logged in emergency/single mode.

@agi. i'll put that in mind the next time i do an upgrade, thanks for that advice... my bad :(

@r3d3ye.... thank you it did work.. apparently i'm already working on my newly upgraded KahelOS. The new gnome is quite sleek.

However, i now have this concern. My volume control is not functioning. When i go to the panel and try to click the sound/volume control icon, i get this notification. "No volume control GStreamer plugins and/or devices found".

If you have any idea, i can make this work.. that'll be great.

@cool8: The problem could be a permission issue. Can you try adding your username to audio group?
you can do this by checking the usermod command. (man usermod)

using your console try this command.

$sudo usermod -aG audio your_username

Then reboot.

@arnold: Can you please elaborate your question by "remote desktop"? are you referring to an application similar to this http://projects.gnome.org/vinagre/screenshots.html
