hm.. i have been testing larchin out extensively ..

i have somewhat cornered the problem..
But first , Cryingtux i would like to ask you a question.
Is your extended partition the first partition on the hard disk ?
are there any primary partitions before the extended partition ?

is your /dev/sda1 a extended partition with all the logical partitions inside ?

i am sure linux itself would run fine whether residing in anykind of kown paritions
eg ext4 , ext3 and so on
However , some installers ( based on what i have seen so far ) do not handle the exception of having the first partition as an extended partition...
Perhaps , that was what caused the error on Kahel desktop edition and KCE ?
i am not too sure yet for Kahel desktop edition ...but this error is confirmed on KCE...

Md5sum of the uploaded KCE 1.1 iso is
31561eb53a69233ef22080283065bf1a
and yes they are similiar .

@Chris: Hash is not md5sum ...Torrent has is the unique ID of the torrent that can be
to find md5sum of file , just use md5sum file ...without the -c option.
-c option is for checking for validity of the file with the already obtained md5sum file.

i am working on KCE ...at the current moment , i have not included the new larchin 7 installer.
( reason is that grub install fails to work -.- )
Hence , as of current moment , KCE dev build is still using larchin 5 installer ...
but i have added some other stuff ( eg..gparted , disk-manager ) to try and make the detecting of partitions as smooth as possible..

@Cryingtux : i am not too sure whether your problem is due to larchins ability of handling extended partitions..
But nontheless , i will test the larchin installer on extended partitions .
( btw ...for info , my home partition is on /dev/sda5 ( extended )...and my swap on /dev/sda6 ( extended ) and my / partition was on /dev/sda7 ...was .. :) )

As a side note , i have always had the notion/idea to keep important partitions as primary partitions...as different software /applications/ operating systems have different ways of viewing extended ( logical ) partitions ..
I have personally experienced this from the installation of windows 7 on to /dev/sda4 ...
my extended swap partition was deleted -.- ...and so was my extended fat32 partition...
yes.. i was pissed ..:) but ohwells :) at least the files werent written over ...so i could still could recover it ....

I would also like some ideas ...
i have removed E17 (it wasnt exactly practical ) in favour of tools like gparted , samba , openvpn and disk-manager
i have even included an Automatic Nvidia/Ati Driver Installer.
Its called sgfxi ..found here..
http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=33851
Arora now supports flash plugins ...( under click to flash option )
Thats a good news ..:)
apart fromt hat , not much has changed in KCE.

i would like your kind feedback and ideas on this ..:)

thank you :)

i guess jumping onto the torrent wagon on day 1 with only 2 seeders was a bad idea :)
at least i see you guys in the "peers tab" so picture me waving ;)

We'd have more seeders if people download the file...that's how it works. I'm guessing we'll have a new torrent by Feb 14th, anyway.

whats the md5sum of KahelCELiveCD1-1?
my downloaded ISO and burned media both come with one i.e 31561eb53a69233ef22080283065bf1a
is it correct one?

Hi, not sure what the md5 sum is:

md5sum -c KahelCELiveCD1-1.iso

returns the result:

md5sum: KahelCELiveCD1-1.iso: no properly formatted MD5 checksum lines found

More to the point, are you experiencing problems with the ISO you have? If so, perhaps we can help.
My way of testing the md5 was to burn the image and see whether the install worked...it did.

Happy to give more info about the md5 if someone tells me what I need to do.

Chris.

EDIT: Just got this from my torrent client:

all:

sorry for a little bit of hiatus :-) heard about a lot of exciting developments in the community (and some not so nice). i wish thank fplolz and joelbryan for their parallel developments on kahelos, and to chris_debian for answering and helping out those with issues. kudos to you three.

also my apologies.. will cross post this across threads.

hhh:

my sympathies for your troubles and issues. life really does that sometimes and makes one very vulnerable to his own worst enemy, his/her ownself. however, for the worse or better, posts such as the ones you've made are not and should not be deleted. there are our subtle reminders that we are humans. we have our ups and downs as individuals and as a community.

as for the other camp(s) you worship, i can't blame you :-) they are gods in their own rights. you might be a better fit there and they might be impressed with what you've said here. they might deify you too. all the best there...

but when you find that you're still a human and would like to become a better one or better with being a human to another human, we'll be here for you :-) but don't expect us to treat you like a god though.

Tried to download this Live CD four times, on top of the four times I tried to install the "official" desktop version. Every time the downloaded file size did not match the reported file size. Tried to install it to USB via Ubuntu's built-in USB creator, failed. Tried UNetbootin, failed. It has never booted for me once, not the official release, not this childish Live CD. I don't know if the download link is crapping out because it sucks, or because I'm in the US (completely poor, homeless in two days, unemployed for 3 months, I would consider moving to the Philippines at this point for a job, but are you blocking US downloads?), but this is ridiculous. Forget Kahel OS, forget their poor English, I might write to Distrowatch and tell them to get rid of this joke of an OS. If it takes this much skill to boot an OS, you might as well use the real Arch (which Kahel pissed off royallu initially with their arrogance, or maybe just their poor English, who freaking cares). If you want it to be just for Filipinos (what's the deal with the spelling anyways? Phillo? Filo? Effo.) just use your tick tock de da dango aiko aiko all day long language and forget your horrible English pseudo-translation, idiots, you children. What are you, fifteen years old? This distro _does_not_work_. Suck it. Christ, clicking on the Kahel OS logo at the top of the page results in a 404. Don't tell me to "lighten up" flopzfck, you sck.
Mabuhay! Azz0les.
A real Arch Live CD is here, and is awesome...
http://godane.wordpress.com/
Note to the trying-to-get-wiser... never trust a forum that doesn't have a "preview" button, never trust an OS where the "translation" is barely coherent, never trust a movie where the only lines in the preview are "Roar" (yeah, I'm talking to you, you 15 year old Avatar fools).
Bad. Suck. Rot. Awful. Stench. Horrid. Putrification. Necrophilia.

Well, I feel bad for you for being homeless, and unemployed for 2 months, If you go here in the Philippines, I can welcome you in my home, give you a nice room to stay, and feed you and treat you well with all the warm hospitality I know. :-)

You are right about the link on the logo, it links to http://forum.kahelos.org/topic/index.php, which is invalid, I'll inform the creative team to change it.

As you know, Kahel OS is just a few months old, but it's evolving in a fast pace, and we really love to hear more on the hurdles people encountered as yours, as well as the positive sides, after all, it is the failures and hurdles that defines the word _improvement_, hearing only the positives and ignoring the negatives makes the world impossible.

As with the arch, godane or chakra. We are not here to compete with them, our values and beliefs are different other than competition, we simply love what we do, because it's fun, and we love to change the world for the better.

So far so good we have done with Kahel OS, it's not that perfect, it has it's bad sides, and some rough edges, and we're not striving it to be perfect, and we're not greedy about it, it will continually grow but the best part of it is we are improving, and helping the people with needs.

We hope we can help you more with your problems, but as you can see we are a really busy team, with many social and work obligations other than Kahel OS, we also have life, we love beer, and we love to chit chat, and we love beautiful women :-). So instead of focusing on you alone, we are gathering the feedbacks people have, then improve the next iterations and releases.

So cheerup, 'don't dwell too much on the negative sides, always keep a smile and don't forget to laugh' as my lola (grandma) says, she knows best! :-)

http://godane.wordpress.com/
Note to the trying-to-get-wiser... never trust a forum that doesn't have a "preview" button, never trust an OS where the "translation" is barely coherent, never trust a movie where the only lines in the preview are "Roar" (yeah, I'm talking to you, you 15 year old Avatar fools).
Bad. Suck. Rot. Awful. Stench. Horrid. Putrification. Necrophilia.

What a well adjusted person!

hhh:If you are having problems downloading, why not try the torrent? The torrent protocol is fault tolerant and may improve your download experience.

As a British (English) speaking person, I have found the language on this site to be completely understandable, with the exception of a recent post. Even if the language wasn't perfect, we have to remember that not all 6 billion people in the World know how to speak English, or indeed may not have any inclination to do so; this is a choice they are free to make.

GNU/Linux has many flavours because people like different things. If you don't like KahelOS or any other distro, then you are free to (and indeed encouraged) to try an alternative. Just because you haven't managed to install a distro, it doesn't mean that you should 'black list' it for others. I think you would get a very short reply if you 'asked' Distrowatch to not list distros that you didn't like.

To end on a positive note:

I am in no way affiliated to Kahel or related projects, but hope that you have a better downloading experience, and succesfully install this distro, or your preferred alternative. I shall leave this subject, now.

Hope this helps.

Chris.

Don't tell me to "lighten up" flopzfck, you sck.

cryingtux: For my first few installs, I just used automatic partitioning, as a 'proof of concept', ensuring that it worked, first. Did you try this, or manual partitioning?

Looks nice but when I tried to install it larchin gives me this error and aborts right at the stage of adding swap
did you follow every step ?
( most importantly , did you do the disk discovery step ..?)
please follow each individual step in chronological order ..starting from top to the bottom..
there should be no problem...
another thing...make sure the swap partition isnt mounted.

Yes I followed those steps well carefully. I have used larchin before on godane`s isos and it worked fine but this time it is fully busted. Kahel OS is promising and I was excited for this live cd but guess my luck is yet not with me :)

lol ...sorry guys for the late notice in the gvfs bug that caused the whole darnned installer to fail to work

So , in essence , this release , Kahel Community Edition Live CD 1.1, is a bug fix release

The applications that can be found are really similiar to that of the 1.0 release :)

Heres a laydown of what to expect...
It is a live cd and will boot directly into a nice GUI :)
It is built using Larch 5 scripts ..therefore , KCE live CD in theory can be also booted from
USB..:)
It is rather lightweight...taking about only 80 mb ram on boot up

Previously , ( in the beta release ) It had the following key applications
LXDM (LXDE's display manager)
LXDE
E17
Shaman ( pacman gui frontend
Arora ( webkit based Internet browser )
Xsane
Pcmanfm ( file manager)
Leafpad ( Light text editor)
Brasero ( CD/dvd writer )
Pidgin ( A IM client)
A small handful of tools ( tools that configure moniter resolution , the locale , keyboard layout and users )

In This final release , It contains all previously added applications and added a few more :D
VLC player
Exaile music player
Ted text editor ( it is MS doc compatible )
Mobile Media Converter ( an easy to use Video Converter )
Gnormalize ( Audio file converter )
MyPaint ( a graphic/image editor :) )
Sylpheed ( A email client )
Xchat ( An irc client )

And for the technically inqusitive ...
here is the list of packages installed
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3789720/packagelistFinal

To use the live cd ,
Username liveuser
password live

To install Kahel community Edition , click on the install icon in the menus :)It shouldnt be to hard to miss it...It is a nice gui installer :)

If in any case the installers fails to start ...type
sudo python /opt/larchin/run/larchin.py

So...please do give Kahel Community Edition Live CD a try :)
here is the link

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/3789720/KahelCELiveCD1-1.iso

i am hoping to get mirrors soon...

Announcements ...:)
As i am currently the only 'dev' for KahelCommunityEdition L...I am greatly in need of help..
Even if you cant spare the time to help ...just contribute your idea :) It will come a long way in helping the development...
And also , i am really hoping to get a small section at the corner of the KahelOS site for the Community Edition Live CD ....:x ..hope its not too much to ask...:)

Thats all for today :) ..I doubt there is a need for anymore bug fixes..( as i did not notice any system instability /malfunctioning anymore ..) unless someone finds a bug .. i will gladly fix it :)

The next release ...would probably be somewhere near December....Probably before Christmas :D

Yep...Feel free to ask any questions if needed about the KCE live CD 1.1 :)

Cheers
