Jan 2010 19:17:46 +0000 fplolz 752@http://forum.kahelos.org/ did you manage to get to telinit 3? if you were at telinit 3 , XORG shouldnt be running means...just a console if you just have a coneole , it would be rather safe to do these steps sudo killall Xorg sudo killall X hm..weird.. sudo should give you root rights...wonder why you couldnt write to tmp unless for a few reasons ..( those reasons i could think of ) Make sure that /tmp directory exists and is owned by root and of group root. Chris fplolz on "Display won't operate in 1024x768" http://forum.kahelos.org/topic/display-wont-operate-in-1024x768#post-745 Tue, 19 Jan 2010 19:00:55 +0000 fplolz 745@http://forum.kahelos.org/ hmm..ops i missed a step :x sorry!! first , please make sure you have done the inittab section..( or no GUI would start automatically..) next run a reboot :) lol sounds stupid ...missed this step.. after reboot , you should see grub menu edit the boot options of the kernel you are booting into by highlighting it and press letter e to edit the section ..press e again. you should see a line containing two letters 'ro' without the quotationmarks.. than...you should add a 3 after the ro ... it will become ro 3 next after editing that press enter /esc (cant remember i do this part rather instinctively..) than press B to boot you would be at a console. login at console than .. sudo X -configure or sudo Xorg -configure after that , type sudo telinit 5 ..you should be moved back to GDM login screen if all goes well. chrisryburn on "Display won't operate in 1024x768" http://forum.kahelos.org/topic/display-wont-operate-in-1024x768#post-742 Tue, 19 Jan 2010 04:21:48 +0000 chrisryburn 742@http://forum.kahelos.org/ Hi there, you're right, brain explosion on my part, I forgot I had already posted.... 1. The card on my Satellite pro 4600 is a Trident CyberBlade XP graphics card with 16 MByte memory. 2. I ran the upgrade 3. I removed the # as suggested 4. I removed the only @gdm I could find 5. I typed sudo telinit 3 in terminal, and nothing happened, just went to a new line in terminal?? Any thoughts? fplolz on "Display won't operate in 1024x768" http://forum.kahelos.org/topic/display-wont-operate-in-1024x768#post-731 Sun, 17 Jan 2010 21:03:14 +0000 fplolz 731@http://forum.kahelos.org/ hm...the fix might be easy, but the proccess behind it might be a tad lengthy.. i would proceed on the assumption you know what a terminal is and you arent afraid of console To ensure that all goes well, please do the following First ensure that you have xf86-video-trident installed next run a system updrade by sudo pacman -Syu than in terminal , type sudo gedit /etc/inittab and find the line #x:5:respawn:/usr/sbin/gdm -nodaemon remove the # from that line and save the file next type sudo gedit /etc/rc.conf and remove @gdm from the daemons after that , in terminal ...,type sudo telinit 3 beware ...you will be transported to the black and white console...with just text.. login in via console and type the following sudo X -configure or sudo Xorg -configure after that , type sudo telinit 5 ..you should be moved back to GDM login screen if all goes well. hope it all goes well...:) chrisryburn on "Display won't operate in 1024x768" http://forum.kahelos.org/topic/display-wont-operate-in-1024x768#post-729 Sun, 17 Jan 2010 19:55:42 +0000 chrisryburn 729@http://forum.kahelos.org/ Hello, I have trialed Kahelos.Nice, I ike it. One issue, I have it operating on my old Toshiba Satellite Pro 4600. Has Trident Video with 16mb. I've been to change the display in preferences, but only 800x600? I previously ran Ubuntu 9.10 in 1024x768 with no issue though earlier versions required a change to xorg.conf file? Many thanks CHris
