@fplolz: Empathy is only 3MB, plus ~5MB for all the telepathy plugins. While Pidgin is only 2MB, it does not have an audio/video SIP VoIP calling capabilities like Empathy, so it will result to inclusion of Ekiga which is another 20MB. That's ~14MB size difference, which is a great deal on maintaining a complete distro on a single CD ISO installer size.

OMG YESSSSSSSSSS :D
ehh..Joel..:S empathy's still there...:s
wouldnt it been a better idea to replace empathy with Pidgin ( pidgin is smaller than empathy )
than removing base-devel

Here are the important notes for the 64-bit version of Kahel OS (Desktop Edition).

Kahel OS maintains a complete Gnome distro under only just 1 CD installer, complete with OpenOffice.org, Firefox, Evolution, Banshee, Tracker, Empathy, Gnote, F-spot and much more..

By default, we have included the complete 'base-devel' packages on the i686 version, but on x86_64, the base-devel packages have not been included on the x86_64 ISO installer, because due to the fact that the 64-bit packages are larger than the 32-bit packages.

If you are going to use a x86_64 version of Kahel OS, simply type
pacman -S base-devel
to install the base-devel packages.

Here are the advantages of a x86_64 Kahel OS over the i686 version.

1. Speed Boost - A 64-bit application will run much faster than a 32-bit application when compiled natively for 64-bit CPU. The packages included in the 64-bit Kahel OS version are compiled specifically for 64-bit.

2. Memory Allocation - A 64-bit OS can allocate a minimum of 4GB to 16 exabytes of memory to applications, which means applications have more access to RAM than before.

3. Processing Power - Images and videos rendered and processed on a 64-bit OS is much detailed and crispier. Also rendering is faster in 64-bit.

If you have a 64-bit capable CPU, you might as well use this version. (Which will be available by today.)
