opened kahel again & it still works after 2 reboots. then i tried a reset without a proper shutdown & the error happened again. it took 2 tries at manually repairing the error, using the mount & fsck commands before it kahel returned to normal.

i will try reinstalling the system using the suggested fs.

I also encountered this before and i was able to solve this issue on which everything is back to normal using fsck. You may want to try this and maybe it could also help you.

1."mount -n -o remount, rw /" and "fsck -y" then reboot the system.
2.what file system did you choose during the installation? check http://www.kahelos.org/docs/manual_kahelOS_Desktop_installationguide_v1.pdf can you try using other FS eg.ext4.
3.This could also be a harddisk problem.

Let us know what will happen.

hi! newbie at linux here. i installed kahel at my p4 computer via cd install. everything went well & was well on my way to enjoy the new OS. on the 2nd or 3rd use of the system (after a boot) the following error message appears:

Unattached inode 365120

Pls repair manually & reboot. Note file system is currently read only. To remount it to read-write type mount -n -o remount, rw /

i go to the root and type the mount command & exit the system. the computer boots again & the same problem again. tried to reinstall system (again successful install) but after 2 uses of the system it reverts to the same error again.

help! don't know how to repair the system.

hi everyone..

recently just made a new iso based of kahel with archiso-live livebackup profile

glad to say , the iso was built without a hitch
Booting the iso was also painless..

However , after logging into the system , the terminal wouldnt work
for example , a terminal would usually display
20:44 samuel ~ $
However , upon launching the terminal ,
i got a blank terminal

and when starting gparted from the icon ,
i got a error saying
unable to fork a new proccess..

i was able to log in as root

does any 1 have any idea how to fix this?

i assume you are using network manager? if yes , please follow the following instructions

Device Needed:
-Smartbro USB modem

Instructions:

1. Plug in the usb device. Once it appears on your desktop, right click the smartbro icon and select eject
2. The light will go out. Wait for a while until it goes back again. At this point, the usb is now switched from card reader to a modem.
3. Right click network manager and select Edit Connections
4. Select the Mobile Broadband tab and click the Add button
5. A window would appear and by default, the ZTE Incorporated ... is selected. Click Forward
6. Select Philippines as the provider's country and click Forward. A list of providers will be displayed. Choose Smart and click Forward
7. On the billing plan, click the drop down menu (the one which says Default) and select My Plan is Not Listed. A blank text box will appear.
Type smartbro as your access point name and click Forward then click Apply

A new window will appear. There are many textboxes here but you only need to modify a few.

8. Select the PPP Settings Tab and click the Configure Methods button
9. Uncheck all methods except PAP. Click Ok. Optionally you may also click Connect Automatically then finally click Apply.
10. After clicking apply, your modem will attempt to connect. You will notice that the green light from your modem will start to blink and a
message saying Established Connection or something similar will appear. Open your browser and test if you are now able to browse the web. If
not, give wait for about 30 sec and retry opening your browser again. If it still fails, remove your usb and repeat steps 1 & 2. If all fails, repeat
all the steps.

More Tips:

-When finished surfing, left click the network manager icon and click disconnect.
-When reconnecting, repeat step 1 & 2. And if you have checked Connect Automatically from step 8, your modem will automatically connect the
moment it switches into modem mode.

Congratulations to all the developers of the Kahel OS! I am always proud of Filipinos who excel in their own turfs and careers. With the emergence of a lot of Linux Distros, i always had the question in my mind if Filipino ITs were contributors to those many distros. The Kahel OS is the answer.
I downloaded the Kahel OS 64 bit ISO files yesterday. Burned the ISo files in a dvd. I was so excited to try it in my spare hardisk, a blank but formatted Maxtor with 320gb of space.
Pardon my word because I dont know what could be a lesser word for disappoinment or disappointed, but yes I was kind of disappointed to find out the ISO files I burned is'nt in a LIVE CD format. It had been my habit to try all linux distros first as live cd/dvd before I decide to install.
But really wanting to try it out, I clicked on the install. Here my disappointment became bigger. Installing the Kahel OS is like going back several years ago in my attempts to install Red Hat Linux and the Mandrake, with all those typings and clickings in the DOS mode.
I had tried the installing and using Ubuntu, from ver.7, ver.8, and now the latest version 9.10. My other drive in the same desktop is with Linux MInt 8. I also tried installing several other distros like Open Suse, Mandriva, Fedora, Linux Vixta, GOS,PC Linux OS,Knoppix, and even the OpenSolaris.
Installing those OSes was so easy, I could say it was a breeze installing them. The GRUB menu installation installed by itself with their own installers.
I am not a computer software expert, but I am an enthusiast. I dont want to be troubled with installation technicalities but I want to try using the Kahel OS.
So I hope with your "Open To Change" slogan, you will consider my suggestion to make the installation of the Kahel OS as easy as ABC.
Thank you very much and Kudos to all of you.

@Seyer:May we know why do you need such information? Is this for your school project?
At any rate, you may want to check other sections of KahelOS website and wiki. (although these are still under development)

I also suggest that you install this KahelOS and other distributions for you to have a hands-on experience on the distinction, that way you are able to respond to your curiosity and inquiry.

Whatever findings you meet along the way, it is good to share it to others, we would appreaciate if you could share it with us as well.

thanks for the translation Jujibo

hm..Larchin is created by Gradgrind :) Godame uses it ...on the other hand , godame has his own archiso-installer...

hm...larchin 6 is rather fickle...its written in bash....coding hell if you ask me..
the new larchin 7 is written in python..( much easier to code..but i have yet to learn python )

Dirty translation from spanish:

"Hi, godane's larchin installer has two issues

1 - It does not install (create?) /home
2 - If you select install EXT4 it does ext3

So do not trust too much GODANE's installer unless you already have repaired!

hola...el instalaor larchin de godane trae 2 DEFECTOS:

1- no instala el /home

2- si uno dice instalar EXT4 instala ext3

asi que no se confien mucho del instalador de GODANE, a no ser q ya lo hayan reparado!

there are two versions of Archiso

archiso the original one used for arch linux
and archiso-live created by Godame..

I am currently testing out the new live scripts for larch 7 ...hoping it works..

IMHO , Larch 7 would provide the most flexibility , followed by archiso-live than arch iso...
hm..I would start banging my head if i had to resort to archiso >.<

apart from that ...Larch 7 has a downside as it requires QT and pyqt ..
however ...it does have a nice looking GUI installer for the live cd :)

hm...for simplicity sake , i would stick to larch 7 ...if it works..

Edit : Officially moved to my new site..
Only major releases are announced in this fourm..
BIG EDIT :D LARCH IS WORKING AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MANY THANKS TO Gradgrind :)

Due to Mkinitcpio , Larch modules have been broken...rendering iso unbootable

till the issue has been fixed upstream , i would be attempting to use archiso

@rclinux: How was your installation?

You can also try these steps for your NVIDIA problem

1.@grub select "single user" mode

2.remove nouveau-drm nouveau-firmware and xf86-video-nouveau
pacman -Rnd nouveau-drm xf86-video-nouveau nouveau-firmware

3.remove dri driver that is conflicting with my nvidia installation.
pacman -Rnd ati-dri intel-dri mach64-dri mga-dri nauveau-dri r128-dri savage-dri tdfx-dri trident-dri

4.start network and network manager
/etc/rc.d/network
/etc/rc.d/networkmanager

5.vi /etc/mkinitcpio.conf
change "nouveau" to "nvidia" under MODULES

6.Install nvidia
pacman -Ss nvidia nvidia-utils nvdock

7.mkinitcpio -p kernel26
8.reboot.

Hope this helps you.

Keep us posted

note:
you may also want to run "nvidia-xconfig" for auto creation of xorg.conf file for better performance of your nvidia card.

Yes , i have started on the 2.X development of Kahel OS

In This development , It will fork into two different ways
one using the archiso-live installer
and the other using the Larchin 7 installer

the reason is that each installer has different requisites/ dependencies ...
So as to not mix up the dependencies and create a bloated distrolet , i have decided to for it out into two separate projects :)

Notes : I would like to express my gratitude to Godane for the archiso-live installer ( though i have never conversed with him... one of this days i will try and discuss this to him )

so...Crossing my fingers for the installer to work :)

Oh yes , in this 2.X dev ,
Shaman 1 will be replaced by gtkpacman as shaman 1 is broken
and shaman2 is still somewhat in alpha and requires kdelibs...

Um..another thing , i have decided . Instead of posting the development and releases of Kahel Community edition in this forum , i will be updating the updates / releases over at my site ..
so as to not spam the forums...>.<
Hm...currently , my site is just a place holder ...with no news in it...
i will update it as soon as i got some time..
my site is at :

Hello!

I'm encouraged to try Kahel OS, I follow the installation instructions but when you start it, do not stop, you can use other drivers.

My Nvidia needs a non-free drivers, someone knows what to do?

Thanks!
